The post will have an on call commitment (approximately 1 in 12) and the rota is supported by contributions from a multi-specialty consultant medical team.

The Acute Medicine consultant team works across all areas of the Acute Medicine department; our clinical workload includes:

  • A 15-bedded Level 1 Unit

  • A Medical Ambulatory Care Unit integrated into the newly developed Urgent and Emergency Care Centre

The timetable is variable and managed on annualised “shift bank” basis, allowing unrivalled flexibility for developing other career interests and for optimal work-life balance. We are exceptionally well supported by a multi-disciplinary team including Junior Doctors, nursing colleagues, Advanced Care Practitioners, Pharmacists and Allied Health Professionals. We have good relationships with our community partners and with colleagues in the Emergency Department. Our specialty colleagues support the Acute Medicine assessment areas with superb in-reach services, ensuring that specialist advice and input is always available. We have active education, training, governance and service improvement programmes. We would encourage successful candidates interested in developing teaching, research, service development or other clinical interests to apply for additional roles to within 3-6 months of appointment. Whether your ambition is to develop your clinical, teaching, leadership or research skills, we can support you in achieving that ambition.

Candidates must be registered with the GMC and need to be on the GMC’s specialist register or within six months of your Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) date on interview day.
