An excellent opportunity exists to join our dynamic and forward thinking team as a Consultant Neurologist based at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, part of the Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

This position is linked to Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre and Brighton however we are a flexible unit and also have links with Wessex Neurological Centre, Southampton and would be able to link CPD and tertiary activity there if required.

All newly appointed Consultants are mentored, via the “WSHFT Mentorship scheme for senior medical staff”.

Western Sussex Hospitals is the first non-specialist acute trust in the country to be rated ‘Outstanding’ in all the key inspection areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission in 2019, improving upon the trust’s first ‘Outstanding’ rating from four years ago.

We are an acute trust with three hospitals; St Richard’s in Chichester and Worthing Hospital, where we provide emergency and inpatient care; and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham, where we provide out-patient care and day surgery.

We are a forward looking and innovative Trust whose purpose is to provide high quality emergency and elective care for the people of West Sussex. Foundation Trust Status was achieved in July 2013. The locality is one of outstanding natural beauty and richly endowed with excellent sporting and cultural facilities with good transport links to London and Europe.

Plans to merge with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals from 1 April 2021 are well advanced and are subject to the approval of the full business case later in the year.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) is an acute teaching hospital working across two main sites: Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The Brighton campus is the Major Trauma Centre for the region. It provides services to its local populations in and around the Brighton and Hove, Mid Sussex and the western part of East Sussex and more specialised and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south east of England. Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre (HPNC) is a unit situated at the Haywards Heath site of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust (BSUH). HPNC is the regional specialist centre for Neurology, providing specialist care and investigations for both in and out patients across Sussex and extends its boundary to the Worthing Hospital catchment area.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview.

Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.
