Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Clinical Immunologist based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff.

The Department of Immunology delivers national immunodeficiency, specialist allergy and central immunology laboratory services for Wales (population 3.2 million). It currently has a team of four Consultant Clinical Immunologists, five Clinical Immunology Specialist Nurses, an Immunology Specialty trainee and dedicated research staff. It is a friendly, research-active department with a range of current clinical trials, laboratory studies and investigator initiated studies. The Immunodeficiency Centre for Wales is centrally commissioned and is hosted by Cardiff and Vale UHB, one of the largest health institutions in the UK with close links to Cardiff University. The University boasts a high profile for teaching, research and development within the UK and abroad.

Excellent research facilities are available on site and good opportunities exist for collaborative research with the UHB and medical school. The appointee would be encouraged to apply for honorary academic status with Cardiff University and would be responsible for the professional supervision, informal teaching and management of junior medical, nursing, scientific and other laboratory staff jointly with the existing Consultants. There will be a formal requirement to become the joint educational supervisor of any Specialty Registrar in training.

The post holder will provide a clinical consultative service in immunology with responsibility for the continuing care of patients who have primary immunodeficiency and secondary immunodeficiency disorders. This may also involve seeing some children with suspected immune disorders and the shared care of children with these disorders with paediatricians in dedicated paediatric immunology clinics performed at UHW. The appointee will provide a clinical outpatient consultative service in clinical allergy.

There is an expectation to comply with the requirements of the Royal College of Pathologists CPD scheme and to participate in medical audit.

Cardiff and Vale UHB is situated in a vibrant, easily accessible part of Wales which combines the best of city life, coast and countryside all within easy reach.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £79,957 per annum to £103,806 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
