We have 2 Respiratory Consultant posts available in response to important further service expansion which will take the Respiratory Consultant complement up from 4 to 6 WTE.
Situated in one of the most attractive parts of the country, The County Hospital (Hereford) is a modern purpose-built hospital providing high quality medical care to a rural population of approximately 230,000, serving Herefordshire but also its neighbouring Welsh County of Powys.
We are a dedicated Department, supported by an excellent team of Respiratory nurses, Physiologists, ACP’s and a full complement of Junior Doctors and Physicians Associates. We aim to deliver the full range of Respiratory services available at larger centres to our local population. We would welcome colleagues with a similar ethos of not compromising on patient care and services while enjoying the benefits of living and working in a beautiful part of the world.
In addition to the current excellent working conditions, the hospital continues to develop and expand clinical services with a recently opened 24-bedded AMU and a new 72 bed Geriatric ward block currently under construction and due to open in the New Year.
The department in partnership with the whole health economy is actively pursuing intermediate care initiatives and this has seen recent investment in admission avoidance and early supported discharge schemes.
The plans for an anticipated three counties medical school are progressing with the aim to enroll students from 2022 onwards and this offers exciting opportunities to be closely involved in teaching and training in addition to those already available from Birmingham University. We have a trainee Registrar from the West Midlands deanery.
This post offers a fantastic opportunity for a great-work life balance by joining a highly modern, dynamic and forward-thinking team as part of ongoing service expansion aimed to deliver a 7-day Respiratory service. The consultants have recently moved off the weekend General Medical on call to a speciality weekend respiratory ward cover rota with dedicated respiratory junior support to deliver the highest standards of care 7 days a week.
The area is renowned for outdoor activites sitting in the Wye valley and enjoying easy access to the Brecon Beacons and Forest of Dean areas of outstanding beauty. It has great family opportunities with high quality schools and affordable spacious country housing.
The 10 PA job plan is split 7.5 DCC and 2.5 SPA. Additional speciality or management PAs can be offered.
Candidates are encouraged to visit the hospital and area to appreciate what is on offer and welcomed to discuss the post with all consultants and any other members of staff they wish. Visits can be arranged through:
